My Cruel Invention named Best Anthology

Published by:

My Cruel Invention was named Best Anthology by Grace Cavalieri, in her “December Exemplars” feature for Washington Independent Review of Books.

50 poets interpret what “invention” means to them, Editor Geyer compares the word to the notion of great possibilities—with language this time. This is a wonderful array of imaginers telling their wild secrets and what they believe possible. There’s “The Happy Marriage Machine” by Gwen Hart; and Joan Bonin’s “Inventing the Clock;” Jo Angela Edwin’s “The Inventors of Pantyhose; “A Physics Haiku” by Keith Stevenson; a magical piece by Laura Shovan: “Eyes on the Back of My Head;” and so much more, telling you what you could not possibly know, or have invented yourself.  — Grace Cavalieri

Love Hurts: A Speculative Fiction Anthology

Love Hurts: A Speculative Fiction Anthology

"'I’ve always had a taste for dark,' says Reeks in her introduction, and she goes on to prove it with a top-shelf selection of tales, 20 of which are original to this book. . . A well-organized, wide-ranging collection of consistently strong genre stories." -- Kirkus Reviews

"For fans of weird and beautifully written genre fiction, LOVE HURTS is a work that delivers 26 distinct emotional roller coaster rides, each as different from one another as they are from any other story you’ve probably ever read. As full of creativity as it is of heartbreak, it’s a book that truly is full of surprises." -- IndieReader (4.5 Stars)

Love Hurts contains twenty-six brilliant speculative fiction stories about love, and the pain that so often accompanies it. Sometimes funny, occasionally happy, frequently gut-wrenching-these stories will take your heart on a wild emotional ride. Stories by Jeff VanderMeer, Karin Tidbeck, Hugh Howey, and others. Love Hurts Update

Published by:

We are excited to announce that the Love Hurts line-up has been finalized! The book will include twenty-six brilliant speculative fiction stories about the pain that so often accompanies love. Sometimes funny, occasionally happy, frequently gut-wrenching–these stories will take your heart on a wild emotional ride.

With several of our hand-picked all-time favorites and over 500 new stories submitted, narrowing the field down to twenty-six was difficult. Unfortunately, some fantastic work didn’t make the cut. We appreciate all of the wonderful authors who submitted!

So now, while we are busy editing and working on the book design, our amazing artist, Sergio Garzon is putting the finishing touches on ten illustrations and working on the cover art. We can’t wait to see the book come together.

Congratulations to the final list of authors for Love Hurts!

About the Author
Thomas I. Benton

Tom’s great-great-great grandfather arrived in a little town in the Ozarks running from a murder charge; he never left. Five generations later, Tom was raised on a farm in that same town. Hillbillies traditionally don’t move around much, and the other Bentons are pretty traditional. Tom moved around, though, starting when he left the hills for a fancy college out east. Now Tom lives in the Kansas City area, which is close enough to the Ozarks for an easy visit but far enough away to deter kin who might want to visit him.
